Escorts can stay with the customers or accompany them on a business trip or vacation. The time spent with the client is covered by a fee, which is paid to the escort agency.
Although it is widely thought that the idea of hiring an escort is for sexual purposes this is often not the arrangement. Many escort agencies gain a proportion of their revenue from supplying an escort for dinner engagements or events of this nature where the customer requires a partner or date to accompany them.
In a few countries, sexual services being provided by escorts is against the law and is treated as prostitution, although avoiding rules like these is common practice for many escort agencies. However, if escorts are offered money for sex they have more power to turn down such advances compared with other types of prostitution.
